We are currently in the process of rebuilding the RantMedia Wiki. In a horrible twist of irony, the old rant wiki was replaced with an ad. The goal is to get as much of the content of the old wiki posted to the new wiki. See all those red links around the pages? Those go to pages that haven't been restored yet. When I started the project I assumed Cimm had some kind of backup of the old one we could work with, and he did: a HTML dump of the old wiki's pages. So, here's the deal:
- It's going to take time to get everything converted, and I have a ton of projects going on, so don't expect everything to be back up in a day
- Accounts are required for editing, this is simply to stop spam and nothing more (use fake e-mail addresses if you want, or even better, other peoples!)
- Right now I've been converting what I have and getting it posted, I don't have any of the attached files from the old wiki, so pictures and/or PDFs that were attached to the old pages are not being posted (I ain't got them to post!)
- If you have any of the files that I'm missing either send them my way or post them
- I don't know how much of the old wiki is still relevant, but I'm doing most of this by hand, so if you write something newer or better I'm not going to blow it out with the old content, so go ahead and fill stuff in or start adding stuff!

Restoration Process
If you want to help restore the old wiki, grab a copy of the backup and start converting!
This is unfortunately a very manual process, here's the process I've been using:
- Open the source of the page to be converted from the backup
- Copy the relevant portion of the html (hint: look for the < div id="searchable" > tag)
- Paste the code into the html to wiki converter found here: http://www.ebruni.it/en/software/os/i_love_wiki/index.mpl
- Copy the wiki text from the converter to the edit page in the wog wiki
- Clean up as necessary:
- The converter will not get all the html code out of the text
- ALL internal wiki links will be broken, they will have to be fixed by hand
- Some formatting will need cleanup, this is probably from the way TRAC formatted text on the old wiki
- I think TRAC was more lenient with page naming that MediaWiki is, a good example is the Patrolling page, as it's sometimes just refereed to as Patrolling and other times as Patrolling With Sean Kennedy. In the backup these are these pages have the same content, so instead pick one and make all other pages just a reference to the one we are using, that way we don't have to maintain multiple pages with the same content.
- Check a page before restoration, someone may have already restored it or (even better!) wrote a new page, don't blow out someone else work to post something old!
- Links: TRAC linked thinks like this [PageName Link Title] - Media wiki drops the space between link name and title, replacing it with a | (That is a Shift-backslash), and adding an extra set of brackets [] to the outside of it.
Misc Notes
Not sure what to do? Here's a few [Special : Links] to see what's missing, orphaned, etc.
Orphaned Pages - These aren't linked to from anywhere. They're lonely. Perhaps you can help them find some friends who will mention them? Broken Redirects - These pages direct you somewhere that doesn't exist. Please help us remove all directions that include 'walk off cliff.' (Unless that is part of the goal, of say, hang gliding - then it can stay!)
